Admitting Defeat

Unfortunately, the cold is getting worse rather than better, despite being Extremely Sensible and resting the past couple of days. There's no way I can run 13 miles tomorrow, so I've had to admit defeat on this one. Grrr.

  1. Sometimes our bodies rule us - sounds a nasty cold - the summer ones are often worse. I hope you are better soon.

I have had to shut the windows here a bit as so far I have had two Swallows in - one came right through the house and soared out of my office window - and a Very LARGE Hornet. There have been quite a few of them about the place so I assume they have a nest somewhere - probably in the farm buildings the other side of our garden. There are LOTS of Spotted Flycatchers too, and I saw and heard a Blackcap this morning. Bullfinches, Goldfinches, several Blackbirds and Robins and the ubiquitous Tits all nesting around the garden and yard. Magic.

    1. Thanks, BB. My husband (usually very stoic about just getting on with it) says he wouldn't have let me run tomorrow even had I wanted to :o).

So lovely to hear about your garden birds. I do envy you the flycatchers, we don't get them here. I've seen huge hornets in our garden too. Could they be the german ones or are they queens?

  3. Sorry - probably not helped by the high hay fever count at present. Colds in hot weather always seem worse don't they?

    1. Thank you, lovely. M is running it tomorrow and even with all his experience I'm a little anxious for him. We're thinking the medics will have a few to pick up and scrape off the ground! Dehydration and heat stroke... not very nice. It was boiling here this afternoon. Hope your back has eased x

  8. You won't get a good result if you are unwell, there will be another race soon, but you do need to be well. Plus the heat this weekend would put extra pressure on you. Best be brave and admit before you start it's too much at this time. I hope you are feeling well soon.

    1. The heat certainly adds to the excitement! Can't say I will miss running in the temps, but I will miss running the race.

  9. Sorry to hear this, but the way the temperature has gone from cold to hot with no adjustment it might be for the best anyway. Feel better soonest.

    1. Hoping all the runners get round safely tomorrow- the race doesn't start till late morning so it could be baking by then.

  10. So sorry CT, that's really disappointing. As you say, it will be a scorcher tomorrow, so not an easy one even if you were in good health. Look after yourself, and fingers crossed for the next one. CJ xx

    1. Having spent the early part of this morning in the garden and been forced indoors out of the heat by 11 I think it may prove a blessing in disguise! x

  11. It's going to be HOT tomorrow so it would be hideous running with a cold. Annoying for you but much better to rest up and look after yourself. Get well soon (and enjoy lying in the garden!). xx

    1. Yup, a real scorcher here today. M has gone to do the half so it will be interesting to hear his thoughts when he gets back. I'm hoping the weather cools a little this week! x
